This Lecture is chronologically the first to be delivered under the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's Kanchi Kamakoti Peetadhipati Sri Sankaracharya Chandrasekharendra Saraswati Swamigal Sathabhisekham Endowment founded by the munificence of The Bhavani Charitable Trust, Madras.
The Madras Kendra of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan has, through Sri T. V. Viswanatha Aiyar and Sri N. Raghunatha Aiyar, conferred on me the honours of being the first Lecturer under the endowment and I am grateful to them for it. They also suggested that I may speak on ADVAITA-FAITH AND PRACTICE and I accepted the sacred duty entrusted to me.
I take it that my task is to give a gist of our ancient philosophy in terms of present day living without giving shelter to obscurantism.
Sri N. Raghunatha Ayar was so very kind as to hear the draft of the central portions read out by Sri D. R. Venkata ramanan, and expresses his approval. His approval is a fund of strength and courage to me.
My friends, Sri D. R. Venkataramanan and Sri B. S. Subbaraya, took down what I, in my bodily weakness and ill-health, dictated bit by bit from time to time. They arranged it in a cogent form. I pray that the blessings of His Holiness may be showered on them.
Prof. P. Sankaranarayanan was so kind enough as to go through the typescripts and make many suggestions. I am grateful for this help.
