The Bal Vihar magazine has played a vital role in the history of the Chinmaya Mission. Started in 1969 by Pujya Gurudev, Swami Chinmayananda it was aimed at moulding the minds of the children and thereby laying the foundation for producing men and women of strong moral character, upholding the timeless values of Indian culture. Pujya Gurudev idea was to "catch them young."
Towards this goal, Bal Vihar has worked for over thirty years. Much valuable material has been published so far and so it was decided that in this, the 50th year of the Chinmaya Movement, it would be a good idea to reprint a series of all-colour Bal Vihar books under different titles. This would strengthen the grass root level activities and help the Bal Vihar children and sevaks.
Commend the work done by the Bal Vihar team and wish them all success in their ongoing efforts.
Prayer, they say, is the food of the soul. And it is as important to nourish the spirit as it is to feed the body.
These selected prayers with exhaustive meanings and explanations will be a great help to all those who have felt, "I love this prayer. But what does it mean?"
While many of these prayers and their explanations have appeared earlier in the pages of the Bal Vihar, you will find new additions as well. Most of the explanations, are by Brni Vividisha, and are our tribute to Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda who believed that prayer was as important as breathing.
Back of the Book
Pujya Gurudev, Swami Chinmayananda said, "Love and service to our children keeping this in mind, let us bring out a series with different titles saints and sages, heroes, short stories, history, creative activity, even jokes and puzzles."
"Prayer is not begging it is an invocation," said Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda.
This is a selection of some of the most beautiful prayers in Hindu scriptures, with word meanings and explanations, which enable us to invest them with depth and understating.
