Obsessed by the desire to benefit all the devotees of the Lord, the esteemed author, Srila Rupa Gosvami, compiled this remarkable work, the scripture called Bhakti
Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu is one of the major works of Srila Rupa Gosvami, and a mainstay of the Gaudiya Vaisnava sampradaya. Srila Jiva Gosvami has admitted that it may be difficult for readers to understand portions of the text, and therefore wrote a commentary to elucidate certain points. Srila Visvanatha Cakravarti has written an additional commentary. In the Eastern Section, Jiva's complete commentary has been translated, and Visvanatha's commentary has been fully translated with the exception of portions, which are identical to Jiva's commentary. The other Sections in general have less extensive commentaries. For these portions Jiva's commentary has been fully translated points are made. In some cases he explains the meaning of the verses quoted and these have simply been incorporated in the translation of the verse without translating the commentary.
