There has been demand from the fraternity for an edition that is written in simple English, not so demanding of resource books for words and phrases and idioms of 18th century, since the English translations of Cesare Matter's books have been done vastly by clergymen with rich English of that golden era, the translated versions often demand a good command of English besides encyclopaedias and dictionaries.
It is an attempt to rewrite the book in simple language with much needed Interpretation & Revision. The entire text has been thoroughly revised and rewritten, in some places the original French edition has been consulted, also enriched with footnotes wherever necessary.
General Idea of the New Science, its Importance, Progress, Struggles and Future of the New Discovery Wisdom is the result of the knowledge of things that were hidden Job.
During twenty years I have worked to spread my discovery. I have reason to believe that at my death it will be known to the whole world. I have the pleasure to acquaint all honest persons, interested in my existence, that my death, so often reported in many large cities, is not a fact. Neither am I a myth. And those persons who lately asserted this at St. Petersburg forget that mythology and the telegraph are incompatible.
I am a reality although only an ordinary mortal belonging to this nineteenth century, the past seventy years.
My native place is Bologna, formerly I only quitted it to travel, I was there in the times of universal enthusiasm in 1847, 1 filled there several public offices, I have been occupied in state affairs, and have been honoured with a warrant f deputy in the Roman Parliament When I understood that I might be in the way of men of different political views, having myself only one faith and one word, and not having attached myself to any party, I resigned of my own accord a position of some importance and retired into private life.
From the obscurity of my retreat I followed political events, without forgetting the respect due to men, to the law, and above all to morality. Up to this period I had never dreamt of practising medicine, this however was the mission reserved for the remaining years of my life. I have commenced late, nevertheless the result which I saw during twenty years justifies me in thinking that I have achieved a revolution in medicine. I beneath to the world not a system of medicine, but the medicine which after twenty-five centuries was yet to be sought for. For a long period I had well known the emptiness of all the systems which every century and nearly every school had engrafted on the old trunk of the decayed tree of medical science.
