Preface

Vaidika Samshodhana Mandala has published Devanagari edition of Avesta in three volumes (1962-1978) followed by the Avesta reader (1988) and (1994).

Ervad Dr. Rooyintan P. Peer had been visiting the Vaidika Samshodhana Mandala every month for several years and used to give lectures on the Avesta.

Due to some unavoidable constraints Dr. Peer could not continue after 2007. we requested Dr. M.A. Mehendale to restart the Avesta classes and despite of his ill health he accepted our requested and the Avesta classes restarted.

We enjoyed the classes no doubt. Dr. Mehendale’s lectures on Avesta Grammar from view point of the historical linguistics proved to be a rare opportunity for the students of Vedas and those of historical linguistics. However since we were already engaged in our own office duties, we could not do justice to the Avesta Studies. The present booklet is our sincere and humble attempt to express our gratitude towards Prof. Dr. M.A. Mehendale.

This booklet contains four sacred prayers of Avesta.

The present Avesta is divided into 6 parts as follows
1. Yasna (Including Gatha-s)
2. Visparat
3. Yashta
4. Khordeh Avesta
5. Vendidad

The 6th parts comprises of the fragments. The Yasna is the most ancient and the liturgical portion of Avesta. This Yasna is divide into 72 chapters each one is called Ha. Each Ha has subsections these subsections are found in form of prose or in form of verses. To simplify the matter one can say that the Ha is the adhyaya and subsections are sloka-s. the reference 11.11 means 11th verse of the 11th Ha i.e. chapter of the Yasna. Except the prayer 54.1 all the prayers are found repeated in several Ha-s of the yasna portion.

A Statue was ordered on Dec 22nd and Paid 194.25 including FREE DELIVERY for me as a GIFT for Christmas and they Confirmed that it will be there in 4-5 days but it NEVER arrived till 30th of December and inspite of my various emails they only replied that it is being finished and will be shipped in 24hrs but that was a LIE and no further delivery information was every sent to me. I called and left a message on the phone number listed on their website which is a NY number but no one answered that phone and I left messages but no reply or update on my Statue was sent to me inspite of my daily emails to know the status. I still await this Statue but NO RESPONSIBLE REPLY.
