This book is a compilation of the lectures delivered by Buyantyn Dashtseren at The Asiatic Society between September 1995 and June 1996. Dashtseren was a former Ambassador of Mongolia to India and after laying down his office, agreed to serve the society as a research professor. As his lectures revealed, he had studied the history of Mongolia in all its aspects and readers should find his research into relations with India to be particularly interesting. Otherwise also Professor Dashtseren deserves to be thanked for opening up a largely unknown world and in the process clearing certain misconceptions that existed regarding personalities like Chinggis Khan, who was the first to unite the Monogolian tribes into a single nation. I hope that both the ordinary readers and scholars will find this publication useful.
