I am the Bhagavad Gita, the eternal epitome of knowledge and wisdom. Who in the world is not aware of my existence? My glory is trumpeted across the world, for I am known to have stemmed forth from Krishna's consciousness, the only complete man in the known history of humankind. Indeed, it is a matter of great prestige for me that a historic being such as Krishna is my sire. And even more momentous is the fact that I have emanated from the supreme level of consciousness of a being as prodigious as Krishna; verily, this is what makes me the Koh-I-Noor of all scriptures. It would not be erroneous to address me as the flowing river of truth, for all the mysteries of human life are ensconced within me. Indeed, the answer to every question pertaining to life is embedded within me. What is karma? What is the relation between karma and its fruits? What is the principle of birth and rebirth? What is the purpose of human life? What is Parmaatma, the Supreme Soul? What are the maxims to lead a happy and successful life? I hold the answers to all these and many other such questions concerning human life and existence, including the principles of creation and annihilation of the world.
Indeed, when such a vast reservoir of knowledge is encapsulated within me, there can be nothing more significant than reading and comprehending me. For, once you have read and grasped me - the Gita itself, sorrows and setbacks will disappear from your life, never to be found again. However, history bears testimony to the fact that "human life has been nothing save sorrows and failures since time immemorial". This reality has remained unchanged despite the presence of a great scripture like mel However, this does not imply a lack of effort on the part of people to read and comprehend me, for I am ranked amongst the most read scriptures of the world. Unfortunately, although I have been read extensively, my true essence has not been grasped (as yet). When, in fact, it is comprehension that is vital, not reading; and even more important is to imbibe and implement that which is comprehended. Nevertheless, for reasons unknown, people have miserably failed at grasping as well as elucidating my essence, and in turn, labelled me as complicated in order to mask their incompetence. Pray tell me, emanated as I have from the consciousness of a simple being like Krishna, how can I be complicated? If you endeavour to read and comprehend me with a mindset fraught with assumptions and presumptions, how am I or my creator to be blamed for it?
