The main purpose of this volume is to contribute to the linguistic documentation of the Kalam Kohistani (Gawri) language through the provision in that language. These materials have been translated of a collection of text materials: into English on a morpheme basis, while -by translations of whole sentences have been provided as well. This volume complements two earlier volume on the same language (Baart 1997 and 1999b), and also builds on them for those readers who do not have easy access to those earlier volumes, the remainder of this chapter presents a brief introduction to the language. This introduction is an updated and expanded version of the introduction to Baart 1999b.
