He Preached and practiced 'non-violence' throughout his life. 2nd October, Which is his birthday is celebrated as 'international Non-violence Day' throughout the world.

However, ironically, this great person, who practiced and propagated non-violence throughout his life, was shot dead by a citizen of the same country that he helped become independent.
