Foreword The present monograph of Dr. Basanta Kumar Mohanta titled "Mortuary Practices of the Hos: An Ethnoarcheological Study" indeed fills an important gap by contributing towards ethno-archaeological literature of South Asia region. This work is the outcome of a three year research project as- signed by the Anthropological Survey of India to Dr. Mohanta by awarding him the senior research fellowship. The report is divided into eight chapters along with introduction and conclusion followed by references and appendix (plates). It is supplemented through tables, figures (drawings and graphs) and photographs (plates). The introductory part of the report contains the meaning and definition of ethnoarchaeology, importance of mortuary data and the re- view of literature. Besides, it also reflects the importance of the present work, aims and objectives as well as the methodology adopted.
