Foreword
Mr.M.G. Nagaraja Rao has been a teacher of Kannada for a long time and his experience in teaching young students comes in handy to introduce new methods of teaching Kannada to non-Kannada people who are eager to learn the local language. At present, he is engaged in teaching Kannada to many willing learners who have settled in Bangalore for good. He handles classes in ten to twelve different places in Bangalore to make himself available for the learners at their own locality. He has been doing this selfless service for quite some time now. He says that at least a thousand non-Kannada people have learnt to communicate in KANNADA in their daily life with neighbors. This is indeed quite an achievement. I have personally met some of those who have learnt the local language from Mr. Nagaraja Rao and they are sincerely thankful to him. This teacher's popularity is growing.

He has, now produced a new hand book which may turn out to be a ready check-book for quick reference in times of need. This book contains twenty steps each different from the previous one, thus making learning a continued process. This is a scientific method and the learner becomes familiar with the language, grammar and syntax included. At the end of each step there are a number of sentences used in common conversation while shopping, or theatre going or visiting places of worship or commuting distances. A careful study at leisure is sure to make learning a pleasure.

The author has also provided at the end of the book, a glossary of 2500 Kannada words with their English meaning for ready reference. He has not forgotten to include some very common idioms in Kannada with their English equivalents.

The author has called his book "Kannada In My Pocket". In my pocket' is a popular idiom in English and has many meanings, the most important being" to be in constant dependence." I believe that this certainly is a suitable title for the book. It can be depended upon as a ready reference.
