Description
About the Book

The origins of the text known as Brahma-samhita are lost in cosmic antiquity. According to Vedic tradition, these "Hymns of Brahma" were recited or sung countless millennia ago by the first created being in the universe, just prior to the act of general creation. The text surfaced and entered calculable history early in the sixteenth century, when it was discovered in the manuscript library of an ancient temple in what is now Kerala state in South India.

To benefit the modern reader, this edition has profuse illustrations in a style based on the traditional art of Kerala. The translation uses fresh, modern English both for the original verses and the commentary of Jiva Gosvami, one of the greatest philosophers of India. The result is a book that is a joy to read, making these ancient and esoteric teachings broadly accessible.

Some of the topics of the Brahma-samhita include explanations of the kama-gayatri mantra, Ganesha, Siva, Durga, Visnu, and Krishna. The creation of the universe, the form and nature of the material and spiritual worlds, and the vision of transcendental love enabling one to see the Lord are also all described. Indeed, this book gives in summary form the essence of Vaisnava philosophy, spirituality, and transcendence.

Introduction

The Brahma-samhita is a work often quoted by Gaudiya acaryas. The fifth chapter of this work was discovered by Lord Caitanya while he was traveling as a sannyasi in the Adi-kesava temple in South India, as described in Sri Caitanya-caritamrta, Madhya-lila 9.237. When the Lord found this work, tears came to His eyes, He began to tremble and perspire, and His hairs stood on end in ecstasy. He considered the Brahma-sathhita an expression of the conclusion of all Vaisriava scriptures, and had a copy of it made and brought to Puri.

Since then, the Brahma-samhita has been revered among Gaudiyas. Like Srimad-Bhagavatam, it repesents Krsna as svayam-bhagavan and shows His relationship to the forms of Visnu, Siva, Durga, Ganesa, and Brahma. Though the whole of the Brahma-samhita has never been located, the fifth chapter stands alone as a short but complete work. It is by and large straightforward, but 8rila Jiva Gosvami has written a commentary to clarify the ambiguous points.

I’ve started receiving many of the books I’ve ordered and every single one of them (thus far) has been fantastic - both the books themselves, and the execution of the shipping. Safe to say I’ll be ordering many more books from your website :)

I received the kaftan today via FedEx. Your care in sending the order, packaging and methods, are exquisite. You have dressed my body in comfort and fashion for my constrained quarantine in the several kaftans ordered in the last 6 months. And I gifted my sister with one of the orders. So pleased to have made a connection with you.
