About the Book

It gives me an ethereal feeling to present you sheer beauty in pristine porcelain that has taken shape in the form of a figurine of one of the most loved and revered legends of Hindu mythology, Lord Krishna and his eternal consort Radha. The pride that I feel whenever I look at this porcelain masterpiece is hard to be confined within words and can only be conveyed through the elegance that emanates from this figurine. India is a land where various cultures and traditions amalgamate to create a symphony of a never-heard-before sonata.

In this pious land, one of the world’s oldest and biggest religions, Hinduism had taken birth and ever since has always inspired awe and has motivated us to give shape to the reverence of millions of devotees. This rich and diverse land hence, has always inspired awe and has motivated us to give shape to the reverence of millions of devotees. This rich and diverse land hence, has been a subject of fascination for not only me but for the entire team at Lladro appreciation to this divine land and its inhabitants who are privileged enough to have taken birth in this blessed land, it is proud to present you with the figurine of Radha-Krishna along with the Holy cow in fragile beauty. The magnificence of this figurine that overwhelms any onlooker is the work of dedicated artisans who have paid elaborate attention to every intricate detail and created this splendor in porcelain.

Hope that you will bask in the warmth of divinity while you go through the pages of the book lying in your hands and get enthralled by the various feats of the Lord while your senses savor the look and feel of our figurines.

Wishing you a happy reading and a journey of never-ending elegance.

Introduction

Ages ago there used to be a cowherd in the village of Gokul who had the divine power of mesmerizing everyone near and dear to him with his divine charms. Yes, he was Lord Krishna, the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The name 'Krishna' connotes the one who grants the wishes and desires of the devotees. He is the one who is bestowed with all the seven attributes in their full glory namely fortune, virility, fame, prosperity, knowledge, asceticism and the one who believes in the rewards of hard work. Owing to these attributes, he was worshipped as a divine form even though he had a physical appearance of any other mortal human being. In fact, he has always been revered and remembered more as a divine incarnation than just a mere mortal possessing Super natural prowess.

The personification of romance coupled with an unmatched wisdom, he could cast a spell with his flute tunes. Whether be his story of birth, the slaying of mighty demons, the way he enchanted the Gopis (cowherdesses) and his eternal romance with Radha, every stage of his life is filled with thrills and is a treat to the devotees. In the coming chapters you will feel the warmth of the aura that is emanated by this great mythological legend, Shri Krishna. The blue skinned God whose legend remains fresh in the hearts and minds of every devotee has now once again been brought to life in porcelain by the master sculptors of Lladro. A porcelain masterpiece that celebrates the beauty and romance of this divine incarnation in the most apt manner possible, this is our celebration of the "Spirit of India".
