New ideas are being established, while old ones continually reinforced. There have been many methods of observation and stylistic rendering in the past 2000 odd years of Indian art, systems of art diversely individualistic.

In this wholly, chromatically rendered image of Buddha, a shapely graceful head smiles through. The painting is charged with vibrant colour and textural effects, achieved through oil based paints and enamel. The enamel not only holds the texture well but gives it a very smooth finish, contrary to the rest of the surface which is rough and granulated.

Buddha is depicted as the eternal and universal contemplative Mahapurush, with certain superhuman lakshanas such as usnisa, the symbol of transcendental wisdom, elongated ear etc. The face is given a mask-like tranquility, breaking through the barriers of colour and texture, to express the spiritual elevation of the Buddha.

Using a very limited colour palette, the artist has shaped and formed the subject matter and the treatment according to his individual vision. Using different yet related mediums, the artist has courageously experimented and shines through this work.
