After a long day of brightening the mortal realm, Surya Deva (Sun god) is about to take a dip in the water of Yamuna Ji, birds are returning toward their nests, and animals are moving to the interiors of the forest. It is Sandhya Kaal (evening) at the Ghat (banks) of the river Yamuna. The scenic beauty of the sunset, the fragrance of wildflowers, and the sweet songs of birds, all of them have been condensed into one magnificent presence in this oil on canvas- Sri Krishna. With glittering Swarovski crystals adorning the dark-skinned Lord like the stars adorn the alluring night sky, this Sri Krishna painting is the visual narration of Krishna’s form as “Murli (flute) Manohara (one who seizes the heart)”- the flute wielding youth of Brija.

On a raised ground sheathed with blossoming flowers, Sri Krishna sits immensely relaxedly. On his head is a heavy Pagdi (headgear) embellished with ornaments shaped like a peacock feather, studded with white and red Swarovski crystals, and embossed with gold. A pair of bejeweled Kundala (earrings), an ornate Haar (necklace), Baajubanda (armlet), bracelets, mudrika (rings), ankle bracelet, and Payal (anklet), and a multi-color garland of flowers add splendor to the mesmeric beauty of Krishna in the painting. A bright orange scarf draped around his blue body, Pitambara (yellow colored garment) as his dhoti and red waistcloth clasped by a gemmed Kamarbanda (girdle) bring a pleasing splash of colors to the oil on canvas Sri Krishna painting.

With his golden Murli in his hands, his large eyes shut meditatively, Krishna tilts to his right. The slight curve in his lips suggests that he is blowing his flute, creating enchanting tones and filling the ambiance of Vrindavana. Mirroring the blue-toned infiniteness of Krishna, the river Yamuna flows in the background of the oil painting, and imitating his orange scarf, a stripe of fiery orange divides the blue sky from the waters of Yamuna. A Kadamba tree laden with fruits acts as the chatri (umbrella) for Krishna,  under the sway of whose presence and nourished by the touch of his lotus foot that dangles, flowers bloom in the forests of Vrindavan, just as they will in the heart of anyone who gets to behold this stunning Sri Krishna painting.
