Under The Kadamba Canopy

Under The Kadamba Canopy

Under The Kadamba Canopy

Under the kadamba tree the lovers meet. Radha, clad in a brightly coloured lehenga, looks ravishing in Her anger over Lord Krishna’s lateness. The handsome cowherd is in a red dhoti and angavastram, and loves Her to pieces. He is trying to appease Her by offering to play a strain on His flute, but it will be a while before She comes round. At the foot of the tree is a small grey pond, from the recesses of which are bobbing up little fish-heads. They seem to be curious to see what becomes of the lovers’ spat, and are indicative of the vivid imagination of the painter.

The plenteous kadamba canopy predominates the surface area of the painting. Luxuriantly packed leaves of silver stand out against the scarlet-coloured backdrop. Parrots and peacocks aplenty are roosting on its curvaceous branches. The rest of the canvas is filled with flora in statement pastel tones. The same are characteristic of the evergreen woods of Vrindavan. Note how the mood of the composition is one of restlessness and romance.

Thank you very much for the Shri Yantra with Navaratna which has arrived here safely. I noticed that you seem to have had some difficulty in posting it so thank you...Posting anything these days is difficult because the ordinary postal services are either closed or functioning weakly.   I wish the best to Exotic India which is an excellent company...
