2" Guru Nanak Dev Ji Handcarved in Ruby

$1000

Guru Nanak is an Indian teacher (‘guru’), the first of a line of ten teachers, who founded the Sikh religion in Northwestern India. In His time, He had travelled widely across Asia preaching the idea of a singular godhead and the importance of equality, fraternity, and natural kindness. The image that you see on this page depicts Nanak in contemplation.

A compact, handheld murti. The medium in which this has been executed is a natural gemstone, which explains the proportions of scale. A precious stone known for its distinct pink colour, it lends the composition its rich monotone that is sure to stand out in a protected corner of your home or office space.

Guru Nanak sits with His legs gathered one on top of the other. The left hand holds the foot of the upper (right) leg in place, while the right hand, with a rosary dangling between thumb and forefinger, is raised in blessing. This is the usual stance of the first Sikh Guru. The shut eyes, conveying profound contemplation, adds to the unusual quality of this sculpture.
