The mother goddess or Shakti is conceived as Mariamman (Mari-rain, Amman-mother) in the Southern part of India, where several Hindu and folk goddesses are worshipped in her form. On a fundamental level, Mariamman is the giver of rain and hence abundance to the people, but for her followers, she also takes on the forms of Durga, Kali, Parvati, Renuka, and Draupadi. Her heavenly femineity is presented in this beautiful copper statue, where the goddess stands on a lotus platform, adorned in a queenly manner, wearing an imposing crown with the Shiva-Linga shaded by a five-hooded serpent which originates from within her, as a symbol of Kundalini Shakti, uniting with the supreme truth in the form of Shiva.
