When we think of Shiva, the imagery is often singular in one’s mind, as a dancer in Ananda Tandava - Shiva, who’s beyond the regulation of imagination, carved into this stunning wooden figurine is depicted as a musician -Ashtabhujadhari Pasupati (eight-armed) about to perform the dance of cosmic essence within the Prabhamandala with a Kirtimukha. His eyes inspire an impression of fierceness, with his legs crossed; he holds an axe, dagger, Japa mala, Kartal, Sitar, antelope, fire, and sutra. Ornamented with chains and Naga coils, he wears the Khadau on his feet. Curved at his waist almost in the initiation of the movement, he’s accompanied by Lord Vishnu playing the mridangam and Lord Brahma playing the manjeera/jalra - together forming the rhythm of the world representing creation, preservation, and destruction.
