Ganesha here is seated on the rat, his vahana (vehicle). The elephant headed god taking the tiny rodent for his vahana emphasizes Ganesha as dwandwa-ateetha, the lord of opposites, the one beyond dualities. He precariously balances himself atop the oversized rat, what with his protruding belly and portly body. Philosophical interpretations view Ganesha's distinctive stomach as a symbol of his ability to digest all experience and conquer all desire. The four handed Ganesha holds his broken tusk in his right hand. The other three hold an ankusha, pasha and a modaka.
