Diorite and Granite stones are famous for their quality of being scraped to give a white color. Goddess Durga is the warrior form of goddess Parvati, who centres on combating evils and demonic forces that threaten peace, prosperity and dharma. The red color of the statue pays a great significance as this color is worn by devotees for passion, love, vigor and vitality, generally on the third day of Navratri.

This South Indian sculpture carved with great elegance sits on a two layered thick lotus pedestal in a lalitasan posture and the rear hands hold a noose and damru respectively, with a serpent wrapped around the damru; left front hand holds a pot of blood and right has a trishul; she is decked up with marvelous jewels and a high multilayered crown.

Goddess Durga is the Shakti, depicted with a calm and serene face and flames burning out from her head form an aureole. The sincere and intense conviction of the sculptor can be applauded on the sight of the accurate and beauteous instructions on the statue.
