Ganesha or Ganapati is a loyal and noble son of Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva. He is considered as Vighnaharta, the remover of obstacles, and is worshipped at the start of auspicious occasions and ceremonies to have no hurdles. There are 32 different forms of the Lord, among which, Heramba Ganesha is the most powerful. The word Heramba is made up of two words, ‘He’ and ‘Ramba’. The word ‘He’ denotes ‘Weakness’ and ‘Ramba’ denotes ‘Protection’. Heramba Ganesha is thus, the merciful and compassionate form of the Lord, who gives protection to the weak and helpless.

Ganesha in this form has four elephant heads and ten arms. The rear hands are carrying an axe, a conch shell, a rosary of Rudraksha beads, and a broken tusk. One tusk being broken, while the other being whole, He is also known as ‘Ekadanta’. The front hands are in protective Abhay Mudra (fearlessness) and Varada Mudra (blessing pose). The pot-bellied Lord is sitting not on His usual mooshika vaahan, but on the king of jungles, a Lion. The significance of the divine Lion is the mode of fearlessness. Hence, this powerful form of Ganesha protects the devotees, and gives strength to the fearful and hope to the poor. The leader of all the Ganas of Lord Shiva is decorated with ornaments around arms, ankles, stomach and neck. The patron of arts and sciences and the deva of intellect and wisdom, Ganesha, brings about a sea of change in the material life of those who worship Him.
