The story of India’s culture goes back to the Indus Valley Civilization, and that is how old is the story of Bandhani. Bandhani (Bandhan- tying) is a kind of textile produced in the culturally rich Indian states of Gujarat and Rajasthan and is traditionally used as wedding apparel by the local brides, serving as their veil or bridal attire and splashing their big day with a handful of vibrant colors.

The process of producing a Bandhani sari is a detailed and laborious one, which requires the Bandhankaar (the craftspeople who are mostly women) to tie several tiny knots on the cloth which is then dipped in vivacious colors and dried. If the Bandhani contains more than one color, the maker redoes the process of unfolding, drying, tying, and dying several times to add the required number of colors to the fabric. The density of white dots which result from tying knots speaks for the caution with which the Bandhankaar secures the cloth to ensure that the alluring symmetry of Bindu (dots) remains flawless on the sari.

Exotic India Art has for you three magnificently traditional Bandhani saris from the lively state of Rajasthan, known for its spirited culture. The saris are made of pure cotton, giving you enjoyable breathability while appreciating the ethnic charm of Bandhani. Gleaming golden weaves run all over the cotton Bandhani sari creating well-proportioned grid patterns which are a distinctive feature of the traditional Bandhej clothing. The Pallu (end piece) of the Bandhani sari is adorned with a network of dots that form different fascinating ethnic patterns underlined by the wide golden stripe. This magic of golden highlight continues on the border of this absorbing ethnic Indian women’s wear. Pick any one of these or go gaga with all three, and you will have in your wardrobe a timeless piece of fashion.
