Vidya Niwas Mishra


Vidya Niwas Mishra was an academic from India who also wrote in Hindi and Sanskrit and worked as a journalist. He was a writer as well as a Sanskrit and Hindi linguist. Over a hundred books in Hindi and English were written, edited, or translated by him. Several publications and magazines were also edited by him.


He received two awards from the Indian government for his outstanding contributions to the world of literature: the Padma Shri and the Padma Bhushan. He was the laureate of the Bharatiya Jnanpeeth's Moortidevi Prize. He was a senior member of the Sahitya Akademi and the founder of several literary and charitable institutions. He had a strong connection to the ambitious effort to publish an encyclopaedia of Hinduism. One of India's top literary magazines is the Hindi monthly Sahitya Amrit, whose primary patron he was.
