Kuber - The Bringer of Infinite Wealth

From the chief of evil spirits to the deity of wealth, Lord Kubera belongs to the family of Lord Brahma. He is the child of Vishrava and Illavida. Vishrava likewise wedded the evil spirit princess Kaikesi, who mothered four youngsters: Ravana, Kumbhakarna, Vibhishana, and Surpanakha.

How did Lord Kubera learn humility?


Lord Kubera is the divine force of riches. Pleased with his tremendous fortune, he chooses to arrange a luxurious party to flaunt it and welcomes every one of the divine beings and goddesses. Everyone who comes to his party feels a debt of gratitude, and pay him respect.


Kubera isn't satisfied with this though. He chooses to go on and invite Shiva and Parvati, who are viewed as the supreme divinities of the gods, the most incomparable of all to his gathering.


They pleasantly decline his greeting, rather proposing to send their child, Ganesha, yet on one condition - Ganesha will get to eat however much he might want. On arriving at the castle, Kubera spreads out an extravagant supper for his young visitor.


Shockingly, Ganesha eats everything and requests more. Ganesha before long starts to eat his way through Kubera's whole storage space. What is the vehicle of Kubera?

 

Kubera is revered as the king of the Yakshas and the lord of wealth and the Vedic scriptures mention that he once ruled Lanka but then was overthrown by his older half-brother Ravana. After being removed forcibly from power, he settled in the city of Alaka in the Himalayas.


In some images, he is seen riding on a human or a mongoose, while according to scriptural accounts, Kubera rides upon an aerial vehicle known as “Pushpak Viman '' which was like a big city in itself.


He obtained it from Lord Brahma by pleasing him with his great penance and austerity. Unfortunately, it was also seized by the greedy demon Ravana. However, when Lord Rama defeated the demon in Lanka, He returned the Viman to Kubera.


Difference between the Laughing Buddha statue and Lord Kubera statue?

 

Laughing Buddha and Kubera, both are pot-bellied figures, with cheerful appearances. However, Laughing Buddha or Budai belongs to the Buddhist tradition, where he is seen as a form of Bodhisattva Maitreya (the Freidnyl One). Laughing Buddha idols present him as a bald, giggling old man, wearing monk’s clothing.


Lord Kubera is the king of Yakshas, Yaksharaja, and Lord of the Netherworld, responsible for all the wealth that the world possesses. Which Kubera Statue Is Best?

In some sources, especially in Jain depictions, Kubera is depicted as a drunkard, signified by the "nectar vessel" in his hand.

The southwest corner of the house is also considered Kuber Moola. It is believed that Lord Kubera resides in the North of the Himalayas and faces the South direction. So place Kuber's idol south-facing.


Hence all obstructions and spaces that accrue negative energy such as toilets, shoe racks, and any bulky furniture items must be immediately removed. Keep the northeast corner of the home free of clutter and let it remain spacious for good energy flow.


The door of the locker should preferably be open to the North, which is the direction of ‘Kubera’ (God of Wealth) as per Vastu.


How do you keep a Kuber idol?


Lord Kuber rules over the North DIrection Hence, the Kubera statue at home should be placed in the North direction of the property. The Kubera corner as per Vastu is the northeast, as it is believed that this direction is ruled by Kuber. As such, this is where one should place a Kuber Yantra.


Light an incense stick, and offer some Lotus petals in front of the Kuber Yantra as a token of respect. The Kuber yantra should be kept close to the Lakshmi idol.


Offer betel leaves, supari, and rice to the fire. Auspicious colors for Kubera are Yellow and Green.


What is the relation between Kuber and Laxmi?


Lakshmi is connected with divinity and auspiciousness whereas Kubera is connected with material prosperities acquired in the form of wealth, opulence, and riches. Lakshmi belongs to the divine origin being the auspicious energy of Vishnu, whereas Kubera acquired the status of demigod through his struggle and Shiva's blessings.


The legends of the goddess of fortune and the god of wealth are always intertwined. As per a myth, Lord Varun, the god of the seas, is a form of Lord Kubera. As Goddess Lakshmi was born out of the seas, it is thought that Lord Kubera is the father of Goddess Lakshmi.

Which day is Kuber day?

 

Lord Kubera is worshiped on Dhanteras, also known as Dhantrayodashi, along with various other deities. Dhanteras falls on the Trayodashi Tithi (13th lunar day ) of the Krishna Paksha (waning moon fortnight) of the Hindu lunar month of Kartik.

 

The word ‘Dhan’ means wealth and on this auspicious day, the God and Goddess of wealth, Lord Kubera and Goddess Lakshmi are worshiped by Hindus for good luck and prosperity.

 

The kuber mantra should be recited which read in Sanskrit - श्रीं ह्रीं क्लीं श्रीं क्लीं वित्तेश्वराय नमःMeaning - The mantra translates as “I bow down to Lord Kuber and invoke him to bless me with fame and wealth and destroy all the problems of my life.”


Why Kuber is not worshipped?

 

According to the Purana, Kubera was a Yaksha. He had an ugly and stout body, so he was always ignored by people and because of this, he was always unhappy. So, Kubera started a rigorous penance for Shiva to gain name, fame, and recognition.

 

Having been blessed by shiva, he has since been worshiped as the God of Wealth and the Treasurer of Gods by Hindus.

 

Now, if he is not worthy of worship at all, then the scriptures would not have suggested his worship. One could very well do it without any misgivings by offering yellow-colored sweets using Kesar or Saffron, Kesar milk, etc. on Friday. And, on the Trayodashi day (also known as Dhanteras) he is widely worshiped along with Mahalakshmi for gaining wealth.


Can We Keep Kuber Idol In A Locker?

 

One could keep Kuber's idol in the locker, happily. But make sure that the locker faces North, which means that the locker door should open in the North. This will allow the kuber to fill it again and again.

 

Since the North is the zone of Lord Kuber, it will always accumulate more wealth and abundance. Always place your daily cash and exchanges in the locker.

 

Do not place the locker in the northeast corner, as it would cause loss of wealth.

 

Lord Kubera is one of the many Gods of the Hindu Pantheon who is still revered by many as the god of wealth and the treasurer of the gods.

 

Can we place Kubera photo at home?

 

In case one wishes to place a Lord Kubera photograph then he needs to place it in the center of the North of the premise where it is being placed. It will face the South while the person praying will face the North direction.


Ideally, have the photograph well framed so that it does not tear or discolor easily. It should be kept at a height of 6 feet to maintain both its dignity and sanctity.

 

On the main entrance of the house, stick a photo of lord Kuber along with that of Goddess Lakshmi or a Swastika. Doing so will ensure that your money does not leave the house.
