Aao Hindi Sikhen is a new method of learning Hindi for non-Hindi speakers. It follows the direct method instead of the translation method where the student is required to have a good knowledge of English as well. Teaching or learning through the direct method means that Hindi is taught or learnt without the help of any other language.

Aao Hindi Sikhen, Volume 1, has been divided in two parts. The two parts have been so developed that they can be used over two semesters. All the lessons have been made in a manner that they can be used both as a textbook for classroom teaching as well as a self-study book.

The first part of the book is specially made for students who have no or very little knowledge of Hindi and therefore the Roman script has been used for Hindi in this section. This helps the new student to get an idea of Hindi and gradually the Devanagarı script is introduced and taught in a scientific manner.

Fourth lesson onwards, word formation and vocabulary is introduced in a graded manner through pictures and contexts. Further understanding of the words has been supported by a glossary provided at the end of the book. Although the communicative method or visual support has been adopted to explain vocabulary etc., yet in certain cases translation to English has also been used. For the development of pronunciation and vocal skills, many constituents are recorded in CD. Whichever part is recorded in the CD is clearly indicated through the symbol of hearing. All topics covered are taken from different situations from everyday life thus helping the student to familiarize with the day to day vocabulary. However, difficult words have also been used and explained through a lesson wise glossary. After studying this book, the student will find it easy to speak, write, understand and use Hindi at a satisfactory level.

This is the first book of its kind which has been made with the help of a student's own experience in learning Hindi and by a teacher's long experience of teaching Hindi to non-Hindi speakers.
