A charya J.B. Kripalani was a rare man and was dead against waste. He disliked wastage. He always led a conversationalist but when he was with those whom he liked, he could go on talking very intelligently and vehemently for long hours. A devoted politician, Kripalani enjoyed the company of his non-political friends. He used to go to the house of Professor Bhabani Shanker, who lived just in front of the Swaraj Bhawan. He sat there for hours together and enjoyed Professor's company.
Acharya Kripalani had simple habits and he loved austerity. This does not mean that he did not enjoy good things of life but he never longed for them. He was very fond of beautiful gardens. One day when he was to leave Swaraj Bhawan he continued looking intensely at the Swaraj Bhawan lawns and was lost in its beauty. His wife disturbing him asked, "How long will you stand here? There are also other things to do." He replied, "Since we are leaving Swaraj Bhawan, now let me have the good look at it. At least for sometime more."
