The series of five Research Monographs on Advances of Ayurvedic Medicine in based on Doctoral works produced at Banaras Hindu University, each dealing with specific areas of clinical medicine and therapeutics such as: 1. Diseases of the Kidney and Urinary Tract, 2. Diseases of the Liver and Biliary Tract, 3. Diseases of the Heart and Vascular System, 4. Mental State Examination and 5. Diseases of the Joints. These monographs deal with update review of ancient and modern literature on the subject including methods of diagnosis and treatment besides model conceptual, clinical and experimental studies on respective diseases as well as the methodology of evaluation of the therapeutic efficacy of selected Ayurvedic drugs. Each monograph presents the details of result and observations obtained in the chosen research settings.

About the Author:
Prof. Ram Harsh Singh born on Jan. 10th 1942 graduated in Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery from Banaras Hindu University (1961), did Ph.D. (1969) and D.Litt. (1982) under the coveted supervision of Padmashri Prof. K.N. Udupa. He is Fellow of National Academy of Indian Medicine and was conferred the degree of Doctor of Medicine Honoris causa by Medicina Alternative Alma Ata. Prof. Singh has produced 100 MDs and 35 Ph.Ds under is guidance. He has published 12 important books, 200 research papers in National and International Journals. He is on editorial board of several National journals, is the member of the National Commission of History of Science and is the 'Ratna Sadasya' of National Academy of Ayurveda. Prof. Singh is the recipient of Hari Om Ashram Award, Jiwaka Award of Asian Medicine and Pt. Ram Narain Sharma Best Teachers Award. He has widely traveled all over the world to promote Ayurveda globally. Prof. Singh joined the Faculty of Ayurveda at Banaras Hindu University in 1964 and served this prestigious institution for nearly four decades in the capacity of Lecturer, Reader, Professor, Head of the Deptt. and Dan of the Faculty till Feb. 2003 after which he joined the newly launched Rajasthan Ayurveda University of Jodhpur as its first Vice-Chancellor. Prof. Singh although his career has been seriously engaged in revival and development of Ayurveda on scientific lines as an evidence based system of Medicine.
Prof. Ramji graduated in Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery from State Ayurvedic College Lucknow. He did his M.D. Ay. in Kayachikitsa and subsequently Ph.D. from Banaras Hindu University for which he conducted a good piece of clinical research on diseases of Liver with special reference to treatment of Viral-B Hepatitis with Bhumya-malaki i.e. Phyllanthus amarus. Dr. Ramji started his career as a Senior Resident in Kayachikitsa at BHU after which he joined the Faculty of State Ayurveda College under Govt. of UP as Lecture, Reader and now as Professor and Head, Deptt. of Kayachikitsa at State Ayurveda College, Lucknow.
Dr. Mrs. Pratibha Mamgain graduated in Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery from State Ayurveda College, Lucknow. She did her M.D. and Ph.D. in Kayachikitsa under the supervision of Prof. R.H. Singh. She conducted a commendable piece of clinical and laboratory research on Ischaemic Heart Disease and its Ayurvedic management. She published several scientific papers in the area of her specialization. For nearly half a decade Dr. Mrs. Mamgain is serving as Lecture and Consultant Physician in the Department of Ayurveda at Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences, Deheradun.
Dr. K. Narasimhamurthy graduated in Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery from Govt. Ayurveda College, Vijaywada in Andhra Pradesh. He joined Banaras Hindu University as a Resident PG scholar in the Department of Kayachikitsa, Division of Manas Roga. He did his M.D. in Kayachikitsa-Manas Roga from BHU under the supervision of Prof. R.H. Singh. During his three years Residency at BHU Dr. K. Narsimhamurthy conducted a good piece of clinical research in Ayurvedic Psychiatry and published many scientific papers. After his post graduation he worked as Lecturer and Reader in the Deptt. of Kayachikitsa at the Venkat Raman Ayurveda College in Chennai till 2002 after which he joined the faculty of Ayurveda BHU as Lecturer in Kayachikitsa-Manas Roga.
Dr. Sanjeev Rastogi graduated in Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery from State Ayurvedic College, Lucknow with a highly distinguished career, Subsequently he joined Banaras Hindu University, Department of Kayachikitsa as a Resident and PG scholar and complete his M.D. Ay. degree under the supervision of Prof. R.H. Singh. During his Residency he conducted a good piece of clinical research on Arthritis and its Management in Ayurveda and published several scientific papers. Dr. Rastogi visited China for two years on Govt. of India scholarship for post-graduate studies in Traditional Chinese Medicine. After his return from China Dr. Rastogi joined UP State Govt. Services as Lecturer in Kayachikitsa. Dr. Rastogi enjoys the singular position holding post-graduate qualification in Ayurveda as well as in Traditional Chinese Medicine.
