"...That the author has gone really deep into his subject is clear and so is his power of analysis..."
- Sports Editor, The Statesman (about this book) Are Cricket matches we go crazy about all fixed and scripted before hand? This should not be a difficult question to answer for those who have some cricketing sense. But then, can continuous fixing in cricket be proved? This book does so scientifically and logically as not to leave any doubt in the reader's mind.
And if you are betting on cricket matches, this book tells you why you should stop that forthwith.
A book that answers all hows and whys one could think of about cricket fixing.
A post-graduate from IIT Madras, Atul Kumar while working at the joint secretary level in Indian Railways estimated and highlighted the continuing annual loss of Rs. 50 billion through procurement in this public organization. For this he was awarded the national level award 'S R Jindal Prize - 2011' for 'Crusade against Corruption.
His interview and articles have been published in the Statesman. Manifesting his incisive insight, he has chronicled his experiences and pain through a book titled rogues rascals and Eunuchs (pain of an Indian whistle-blower). Atul Kumar has also been awarded for his Hindi poetry collection Khoonti par tanga Gandhi.
His exceptional insight has led him to write the most comprehensive books ever Inside the Boundary Line (reality fiction) and Bettors Beware (match-fixing in cricket decoded) (non-fiction) on match-fixing in cricket that totally expose the international cricket. The former was also translated in Hindi. He followed these up with another book Cricket: The Massive Fraud. The book has been translated and published in Hindi as well as some regional languages.
Match-fixing in sports in general, and in cricket in particular, is a subject that should concern all, but unfortunately doesn't concern many. Books have been written and exposes have periodically been made about fixing in sports, but fixing has continued unabated and the following for such fixed sports has continued unabated. So it applies to cricket. Then will this be another book that will at best make some ripples and become just history sooner than later? I hope not. This book is going to give a number of screaming headlines that should take some time to die down, and should compel the authorities and the public alike to sit up and take note. I had written a reality fiction 'Inside the Boundary Line', published in Nov, 2012 and thought that it was the last word on fixing in cricket and contemporary civilization. The book was written by one who could see total fixing in cricket as clearly as the back of his hand, but felt helpless in proving it. It was like Miss Marple or Hercule Poirot (the Sleuths created by Agatha Christie) knowing who was the murderer but not having a proof to nail him or her. In such a situation they deceived the murderer to lead him or her to confess to the crime. I couldn't do any such thing, but that didn't stop me from sharing my deductions with the world.
