There could not be a topic more important to yours truly than a book that touches on this subject so close to my heart. The practice of bringing the mind back to focus on the Divine Presence in daily life has through- out history been the technique taught by the mystics to slowly remove the deep root of the ego - the veil or mist that seemingly separates us from the Divine Presence. Mystics, of various traditions and cultures, without fanfare, essentially point out that the moment we forget about our little self, our consciousness rises like cream in milk.

The process is very simple: bind the mind to one thought- the thought of the One, the Divine Presence. This focusing or stilling of the mind can only happen in a loving heart. The seeker has to be in love in order to put in this constant, persistent, and patient effort. Mystics are all bound by the same limited words or expressions, such as: "God is love," "God is grace," "God is the spirit that moves in everything." etc. They point out that to understand the mystic reality we have to experience this rise in consciousness. In other words, we have to shift our attention from the illusion of material existence to the inner reality of the Divine Presence that is not only within the seeker but also in every particle of creation.

This book very simply refers the reader to literature by various mystics who left letters, notes, diaries, etc. that touch on their practice of being in the Divine Presence throughout their lives. Such books have a spiritual fragrance that make them irresistible to the spiritual seeker.

One of the things that this book does is to explain the link between the human and the Divine - love. Love lifts up our consciousness. And how do we get that love? How do we forget about ourselves? How do we get that deep and abiding love that propels us to focus our attention and sustains us on this spiritual quest? By association with a l over of that Presence, a mystic adept - the very point that is clarified in the final part of this book.
