University of Vedic Sciences offers this as teaching material to the Graduate students of Vedic Sciences touching the fundamentals of Ayurveda laidout in this concise volume.

'Vedic Sciences' include Ayurveda, Yoga, Mantra Sastra, Agama (Temple worship), Shrauta (or the Science of Vedic Kabalistic Rituals called Yagnas), Vedic Geometry called 'Sulba', Ganita or Vedic Arithmetic, and a host of other disciplines for which there is no term in the English language.

Too long, have the interpretation of the Vedas been influenced by western thought and Christian bias right from the days of Sir William Jones and Max Mueller. It is time to revive in their true form, the purest teachings of the Vedas unbiassed by any modernization or distortion in the light of supposed modern sciences! Because every time modern sciences alter their stand and many times even reversed their stand shamefacedly and still claim infalliability it is neither desirable nor proper to distort the Vedic Sciences by aping the western knowledge. Each discipline should stand on its own feet, as taught by the Ancient Masters!

With this aim the University of Vedic Sciences is offering Graduate Degree Course in 'Vedic Sciences' and in humanities, covering Indian Philosophy in its true shape.

It is hoped that this small book serves the purpose of reading material on the basis of Ayurveda both for teachers, teaching the subject and also for the students as consulting and reading material.

This book forms part of a series on Vedic Sciences published by the University of Vedic Sciences. Already books on Mantra Sastra, Vastu, Jyotisha and certain allied fields have been brought out in English, Telugu, Kannada and Tamil to make them easily accessible in the language of the public, in their mother tongue. Suggestions for improvement, will be gratefully received.
