"Shrimadbhagwad Geeta" is the treasure of Indian Philosophy. It is an invaluable contribution to the philosophy of the world and of the humankind. Various scholars have expressed their obeisance to this epic scripture at different stages of history. The relevance of the Geeta to understand the purpose of human existence is timeless though it was written thousands of years back.
There have been several commentaries on the Geeta. The Geeta has also been translated in several languages. Various scholars have commented on the Geeta in their own style laying emphasis on its different aspects. However, since every generation has its own distinct way of comprehension, a new scientific and logical commentary on the Geeta was the need of the hour to disseminate its tenets in the modern young minds. The present exposition of the Geeta authored by Sri Hriday Narayan Dikshit fills this void and it will go a long way in inculcating the values enshrined in this epic book among the modern generation.
Sri Hriday Narayan Dikshit is a renowned author and columnist with a national fervour. He is known internationally for his writings on Indian culture and Vedic literature. In this book he has made an unique effort to expound and connect the Shlokas of the Geeta with the Rigvedic and later Vedic references culminating them up to the modern contexts. The book also contains references from previous commentaries and thoughts on the Geeta. This commentary of Sri H.N. Dikshit weaves a thread from Rigvedic period to the modern day Indian literature and philosophy establishing that there is continual consistency in Indian thought and culture and the Geeta is the superlative pronouncement of the same. The present commentary reflects scientific and logical approach to understand the salient features of the Geeta.
Sri H.N. Dikshit has added some new chapters in the present English translation and has also edited some of the old chapters of the Hindi version. In one of the newly added chapters he has enumerated the relevance and application of the philosophy of the Geeta in parliamentary parlance. He has shown in this chapter as to how the basic tenets of the Geeta can uplift the standards of modern parliaments and how they can improvise the conduct of the members of the House. This is breaking a new path to apply and follow the essence of this timeless scripture to strengthen the parliamentary democracy.
