B.S. Bir, a celebrated story-writer in two vernecular languages of India - Punjabi and Hindi- is the author of seven short-story books in national language of India and nine books in Punjabi. About 165 short-stories have flown from his creative pen. He is a poet and novelist as well. Eight anthologies of poems, a biography of Ex-Prime Minister of India (Dr. Manmohan Singh) and one novel based on stream of consciousness and symbolism technique have come from his powerful vision of hardcore realities and philosophy of human life. He has a vast knowledge of world literature and is well versed in mythlogies of the world. 'Eighteen phoenixes of Mahabharta' is his famous poetic composition.
The present book 'Big Mom and other stories' contains twenty five beautiful and artistic stories from the different segments of life-rural and urban both. He has sucessfully drawn a number of immortal characters in these stories. His poetic sensibility does not disappear from his stories which add to the merit of his simple and a lucid language.
