This little volume contains uplifting quotations from Mme Blavatsky's writings for every day of the year.

It offers inspiration for deeper study and meditation on the mysteries of life.

On the occasion of the Second Annual Convention of the American Section of the Theosophical Society (Chicago, April 22, 1888) a letter from HPB to William Quan Judge was read. This letter is reproduced in the Collected Writings, Vol. IX, p. 242 should the reader like to read it in its entirety, but here I would like to quote but a few short lines.

I can think of no better words than these with which to introduce a collection of Blavatsky quotations, since by her writings so many people have lighted a candle of true knowledge and left the darkness of ignorance behind. What easier way could we find than to study, meditate on or thoughtfully consider a brief part of the Ancient Wisdom each day of the year, and to hope that in some way we each might become a small centre of light to help another find the Way?

A Blavatsky Quotation Book was compiled by Winifred A. Parley in 1921 and was published by the Theosophical Publishing House in London. When it was decided to reprint this delightful book, we found that some quotations had been used more than once and there were perhaps other quotations which might be used that would be more apropos for the 1970s. We wrote to some twenty Theosophists throughout the world whose dedication over the years have marked them as true students of the Ancient Wisdom as HPB wrote of it and taught it, and we asked them to share with us their own favourite quotations from her voluminous writings. We have selected from these which they sent us to fill out the year. We take this opportunity to thank each of them for sharing with us in this way.

H. P. BLAVATSKY (1831-1891), considered by many the greatest occultist of the West, was an outstanding messenger who presented the Ancient Wisdom for the modern age. Scion of a Russian aristocratic family, from childhood she displayed remarkable psychic gifts, artistic and literary talents and intellectual accomp- lishments. Widely travelled the world over and seasoned by extraordinary adventures, she was well prepared by her Teachers to redeem humanity from the enveloping darkness of materialism. Her great achievements were two- fold: founding, jointly with a distinguished American, Col. H. S. Olcott, the Theosophical Society in 1875; and writing on a prodigious scale spiritual and occult literature which entitled her to be known as 'the Light Bringer'.
