Inadequacy of the data based on excavations and inscriptions How was the earth formed and why was it formed? These questions are important. But it is equally important for the future generations to know the path traversed by man. Historians and anthropologists have acquainted us the path man has taken at different times in different regions. Excavating the Harappa and Mohenjo Daro regions, archeologists have presented before us the remains of a great civilization. From these historical remains you cannot get definite information about the life of the people of that time. Similar attempts to write about the life of the people on the bases of the archeological excavations and the historical remains are at best conjectures. The life of a people: their customs, moral codes and traditions can be known for sure if the people themselves recorded them in some form. The present work is such an attempt (to write the history of a community on the basis of the records left behind by the community).
According to anthropologists, when man evolved the animal kingdom, he descended from the forest to the village, or after clearing the forest, he turned the forest into a village. He started cultivation in the cleared forest.
