The 39thNavaratri Malar is a natural continuation of the two issues before it. The last malar was a detailed worship of deities around Sri Cakra, Caturayatana devatás. In this years malarSubramanya worship has been extensively covered by Sri Atmananda Nátha (Sri K. Ramesh), whose name as an authority in Sri Vidya is growing. It totally reminds us of Smt. Guruguhamba, our most beloved Smt. Gnanapurani Madhvanath, who attained "Sayujya Siddhi" with Ocean of Compassion and Love, Sri MahaTripurasundari. "Sri G Amma" as she was affectionately known to everyone she touched, was an institution, serving her Guru, Sri Devi as Sangita yogini, Sri Subramanya her family deity and the greater family of Sri Vidya upasakas with steadfast loyalty, love and unostentatious faith. It was her paternal grandfa ther who gave Sri Arunagirinathar's "Thiruppugazh" in its present form to the world. To me person ally her untimely passing has been an unimaginable loss and shock, from which I am yet to recover. She was an untiring, integral part and parcel of our Sri Vidya Temple, right from its humble begin nings, here in Rochester NY. Her untiring works have decorated the hands of thousands of Sri Vidya Upasakas all over the world, especially in the form of Sri Vidya - Srl Cakra Puja Vidhi in Tamil, Sanskrit, English and Telugu, and none the less all the subsequent "Malars" that came out every Navaratri from 1995. Her loss has left gaping holes in the temple community and our hearts. She along with her husband Dr.U.Madhvanath (Sri Kriyanandanatha), were honored by the Temple as "Sri Vidya Seva" Ratnas and her entire family served Sri Rajarajesvari Devi here with unwavering faith and devotion for years. What she gave to the rest of those who came seeking her considerable talent in Carnatic music, in the form of free music lessons have benefitted hundreds of people. With her guidance Tiruppugazh parayana on Sukla Sasti days, Lalitasahasranama parayana on Friday, Thursday Sai Bajans which were started in many places, where she visited or lived;is still continuing to this day. It is rightly fitting that this year's offering to Devi is a book on Subramanya worship, her Family Deity. I am sure she is seated on the Devi's right hand, which is holding five flowery arrows and singing Mother's praises along with parrot, immersed in eternal bliss.
