The belief in the chakras, kundalini and the seat of Parabrahrnan in the head etc. seems to be very old, perhaps as old as the system of Yoga which certainly dates back to pre-Aryan period. It has been vigorously propagated by the followers of the N5tha Sampradaya in the medieval ages and the belief has even been incorporated in the daily ritual of Puja in the 'Fanatic form of worship.
Though the work is not of very high antiquity- it was written sometime during the last century-. yet it is an important treatise of its kind in as much as it treats the subject in a simple as well as lucid and yet scholarly manner. No details worthy of note regarding the Cakras and their nature have been left out and these have been presented in a transparent manner in a simple language and style.
Only one manuscript of this work has come to light till now. This was most probably collected in Maithili which Badarinatha actually haled from, and is presently preserved in the manuscripts Library of this Vidyapeetha.
Shri Jeeveshwar Jha, Asstt. Curator in this Vidyapeetha, has carefully restored the text and nicely translated it into Hindi so that this technical subject has become clearer to the many non Sanskrit knowing people. The figures and sketches provided in the book contribute further to the proper understanding of the text.
Inspire of the fact that some works on this subject are already available ( e, g. satcakraniraparja translated by Arthur Avlon in his book Serpent Power ), I think that this small work has its own importance in view of its candid and easily intelligible treatment of the subject.
I am confident that this work shall be received well by the research students and scholars and shall prove popular.
