Kamal R. Adhikary, born and bought up in Nepal, has taught English and Nepali in Nepal, the Republic of Yemen, and the United States.

If the inception of the earlier versions of this dictionary took place at Leeds University, UK, in 1976, this edition developed fully while teaching Nepali to American students at the University of Texas at Austin from 1984 to 1993.

The present combined volume of English-Nepali, Nepali-English is intended mainly to serve the needs of those people of Nepali origin who come to the United Stated with very little English. However, the dictionary is also useful to those who would like to learn Nepali and English, such as students, teachers, administrators, readers, travelers and translators.
