Satya Deo Gupta was born in a small village Uchain of Bharatpur district in Eastern Rajasthan, India, comparatively a backward and Hindi speaking area, the literary journey for this translator has been quite eventful, tedious but not a dull one. Having completed an emergency tenure as an Officer in the Indian Army, he joined the Civil Services in the Indian Central Government. He migrated to USA in 1980 and completed the Master's degree from Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University in May 1981. He is an amateur writer, purely for fun, that too an unestablished and unpublished one.
Love for Ramayan was inherited from the loving and religious parents and was reinforced through the noble association of people like Shri L.P. Vyas, the writer of the original book. In fact, the inspiration for indulging in this translation also came through him only, not by his direction but in his presence just volunteering for it. In the line of English translation, the one important effort has been the translation of the Ramcharitamanas into English verse, which is still in the manuscript stage.
Despite of best and sincere efforts the readers may find it lacking in so many ways. The credit belongs to Shri Ramji and the illustrious writer of the text Shri L.P. Vyas ji.
Lallan Prasad Vyas is Chairman of the World Series of the Ramayana Conferences, 18 organised in 13 countries so far. He is also writer of many books and Chief Editor of the Vishwa Hindi Darshan Magazine.
