About the Book This book "Contribution to Sri Jagannath Rathotsava Kavyam to the Devotional Literature on Sri Jagannath" is a well-researched and systematically prepared document that deals with various aspects and dimensions of Shri Jagannath Culture. Lord Jagannath, the unquestioned presiding deity of Odisha, worshipped in the monumental Shrine at Puri Dham, is considered as an epitome of our composite culture and cosmopolitan tradition and as such a synthesis of all systems of philosophies and religious streams of the world. Hence, He is known as Jagannatha, the Lord of the Universe. So many Yatras or festivals are observed at Puri as parts of the rituals of Shri Jagannath and Ratha Yatra or Car Festivals is treated as the most popular and significant festival. During this period, Lord Jagannatha along with His elder brother Balabhadra, sister Subhadra and divine Ayudha (Weapon) Sudarshana is brought in a procession to their respective chariots placed in the Grand Road (Budadanda) and the cars are pulled by the devotees amidst their emotional chanting and dancing up to Gandhicha Temple; considered to be the sacred birth place to the Trinity. Pandit Gunanidhi Dash Sharma, a poet par excellence, has described this wonderful car-festival in his Kavya in an elegant manner and this concerned book is a critical analysis on it. The Car festival is observed for well being of the human community of the world as perceived by the author.

About the Author Dr. Swetapadma Satapathy, born on 14th April 1987 in Cuttack, got her Secondary education in an integral school based upon the philosophy of Yogi Aurovinda. She stood first in her B.A. with Sanskrit as Hons. in S.C.S. College under Utkal University, BBSR and got her Post-Graduate degree from Rashtriya Sanskrit University, Tirupati (A.P.) in Sahitya with specialization in Eastern Aesthetics. She obtained the Ph.D. degree from the same University in Sahitya with specialization in Sri Jagannath literature and culture. She has been awarded four Gold Medals for her excellent presentations in Sahitya, Dharmasastra (Ancient Indian Jurisprudence) and Samkhya System of Indian Philosophy during her student's career. She has participated in several national and international Seminars and Conferences and presented nearly twenty papers on various aspects of Literature and Poetics in these Conferences. Her research papers have been published in various National and International Journals. She has obtained her P.G. Diploma in Classical Dance (Odishi) from Pracheena Kala Kendra Chandigarh, Panjab and has performed in several national platforms. At present, she is working as a faculty of Comparative Aesthetics in Odisha Chair under the Dept. of Sahitya.
