Book Description
About the Book
An attempt has been made here, probably for the first time to collate and examine, firs! of all, such words which have been used in the Sanskrit and semi sanskrit inscriptions noticed so far, but which do not find place in dictionaries. Likewise, those words which though defined in lexicons, have undergone change in their meaning when used in the composition of inscriptions, are also sorted out and examined afresh. In the same way, a good number of desi words used either in their desi or sanskritized forms in the inscriptions are listed here for the first time and examined in detail. Finally, a list of such words and expressions which came out and got circulated in the vocabulary of epigraphists either on acconnt of a faulty reading or because of the mutilated, defaced and fragmentary nature of the record, is compiled with modest suggestions of improvements. Besides all these words discussed in four different groups, an appendix is also added that deals in detail with the lexicographical import of more than fifteen words and expressions.
