About the Author Dr.S Chidambarathanu Pillai born in 1934 belongs to a family of Siddha Medical Practitioners for 46 generations in Eraniel, Kanyakumari District. He has made years of research on Siddha medical Literature and produced about 60 books on Siddha medicine in English and Tamil.

Furhter he has been doing extensive research on ancient palm leaves, left by his fore fathers and has written more then 40 books on Thanuology (Varmam) in both Tamil and English. Being a Yogi, he has produced 4 books on Yoga.

He is a graduate in Arts, Commerce and Law, and a Post Graduate Diploma Holder of the Institute of Purchasing and Supplies, London. He has Membership with All India Bar Council, New Delhi, and Institute of Purchasing and Supplies, London. He is an Advocate and Notary Public, He has served a number of years in different capacities in Southern Railways, B.H.E.L., and M.P.T.

He has authored for about 20 books on Inventory Management. He is a Director of International Institute of Materials Management, E-32, Anna nagar (East), Chennai-600 102, which conducts 2 years Inventory Management course by Correspondence.

He is the Founder and Managing Director of Thanu Foundation, Chennai-600 102, which administers a number of Educational Institutions including International Institute of Thanuology, International Open Academy for Siddha Medical Sciences and Siddha Medical Literature Research Centre, Chennai-600 102. He is responsible for conducting a number of Correspondence courses.

He has participated in the Second world Tamil conference at Chennai in 1968, exhibiting hundreds of ancient palm leaves on Siddha Medical Sciences inherited from his fore fathers. And He has also had the distinction of having attended and conducting a number of serius workshop on various subjects.

Dr.S.Chidambarathanu Pillai has found out that Thanuology can be made use of in Indian Sports medicine, due to his long years of research on Varmam (Thanuology). Some seminars were conducted on Indian Sports medicine at Chennai and Published a few books on Indian Sports Medicine.

He is responsible for starting the "Thanuological Society" to prevent mankind from being exposed to impact ailments.

He is the Editor of "Siddha System of Life" a quarterly English magazine to up hold the cause of Siddha medical sciences since 1984.

In order to supply genuine medicines to the qualified students of Thanu Foundation and its subsidies, he has registered a company called Kayakalpa Pharmaceuticals (P) Ltd., Chennai. He has arranged to get Thanu Foundation registered with BAPASI in 1996 so as to sell his own Publications totaling thro' the Exhibition stall under the banner "THANU FOUNDATION". He participated in many exhibitions thro' out Tamilnadu and Kerala.

He has received the accreditations viz., Vidya ratna, Panditha ratna, Siddha Maruthuva Elakkiya Selvar, Appreciation certificate issued by Sri. Jayanthra Sarawathi Sankarachari Swamigal.

Preface Just as different Asaras in Yoga are recommended for people to eliminate the accumulated poisons, created in our body due to unsuitable food, irregular life style, variation in climatic conditions, poisonous bites etc., the poison created due to impact to life cen tres of the body, is removed by therapies resorted to in Thanuology (Varmam). Thanuology (Varmam) is another Tamilian medical sci ence second to Siddha Medicine. The Human body is a net work of 72,000 nerves. The junctions of each nerve form the life - centres (Varmam). Of which, 828 life centres are important. It is dealt with in "Varma Vimanam". These life centres are grouped as vital life - centres, Medium life centres, Striking life centres. Inner life centres etc,. Depending on the measure of impact occuring at life centres, different ailments arise. If no proper treatment is given in time, the victims life span is shortened, besides exposing them to a number of diseases.
