It is the mission of Paduka Darshan Sannyasa Peeth to bring alive customs as defined in the classical scriptures of India. Swami Niranjanananda Saraswati is reviving the ancient Saurya traditions, such as the observance of Sankranti and daan, to preserve the wisdom of the sages for the upliftment of spiritual aspirants.

Saurya Traditions I is a journey into the world of Surya, the Sun, who is explored from many angles: mythology, science and astrology. The influence of the sun on the planet Earth, on Prakriti, nature, and the individual has fascinated humankind since time immemorial.

Worship, invocation and ritual have been devised to connect with the Sun and reap the benefits on all dimensions of human existence. For the modern age, Saurya Traditions I proposes a practical sadhana to make this connection a reality in day-to-day life.

This year in 2019 at Sannyasa Peeth, the Sankranti Tanushthana is being conducted as part of our effort to revive the Surya Siddhanta, the ancient traditions of sun worship. Since ancient times, Bihar has had a special and unique relationship with Surya. Although the most famous one is Konark, in Odisha, there are many more solar temples in Bihar and the eastern part of the country than anywhere else. It is in Bihar that the ancient traditions have been partially preserved and are still practiced even today in the form of Chhath and other vrats or observances.
