Sanskrit Sahitya Parishat, Calcutta is the store-house of a huge number of Sanskrit manuscripts. Compilation and Publication of subject-wise specified catalogues is a long- standing scheme of the Parishat. Three volumes on Simit, Tantra and Kosa have already come out. Cataloguing of Mss on Nyaya which is the largest in number in its stock still remains incomplete. The task has now been entrusted with Prof. Subuddhi Charan Goswami of Rabindra Bharati University, a reputed scholar of this discipline in our present time. Most of the data-sheets were prepared by Pandit Madhusudan Vedantasastri, Siddheswar Panchatirtha and Srimohan Tarkatirtha. Unfortunately the last two Pandits expired in the meantime., We express our deep sense of respect and honour to the departed souls of those scholars.
Prof. Goswami and his teammates followed the same line of data-preparation. And the completion of the work still requires a good length of time, but we are at last, successful in publishing this cataloguing of 1200 titles.
To maintain parity with other volumes of our Catalogues, one Appendix has been added in the last part which contains specimen of beginning and ending of the concerned manuscripts. Mistakes of languages in the Mss have not been corrected in the Catalogues. They have been retained as usual in the pages of the Catalogue. We think it to be the business of the editor of the Mss.
Prof. Goswami has added a brief note on Nyaya-Vaisesika Tradition at the beginning of this work in order to help the scholars or users of this Catalogue grasping the position of the intended text. Authorwise Index of Mss has been prepared by Sm. Sujata Bhattacharya, a research-fellow of Rabindra Bharati University. The Parishat is grateful to both Prof. Goswami and Sm. Bhattacharya for their valuable service. We are also grateful to other associates of Prof. Goswami for volunteering their help in the preparation of this volume. Prominent among those associates are Dr. Krishnananda Chakravarti, Dr. Sanjit Kumar Sadhukhan, Sm. Pampa Chatterjee, Sri Chandan Bhattacharya (lecturer, Srirampore College), Sahadev Chandra. Ali Bhattacharya, Uttam Bal, Sanjay Kanrar, and Dr. Aruna Bhattacharya, Librarian of the Parishat. This volume is no doubt the result of their collective efforts. Dr. Krishnananda Chakravarty still continues in preparating data-sheets of mss for the 2nd part of this volume.
