We just hope that after reading the book, profusely illustrated with photographs, the reader will become like a real 'Dilliwallah", full of joie de vivre, willing to mingle with the crowd and dance to the tune of the wedding band which accompanies the groom! A ho!
He claims to be a part of the 'Woodstock Generation', dabbles in the films and writings of Satyajit Ray, presents audio-visual shows on the music of Salil Choudhuri, collects Ravi Shankar's orchestral compositions, and at the same time, claims to be the largest collector of 'Vangelis' in India.
He has been writing since his school days; his first articles being published in 'The Junior Statesman' in 1969. He has functioned as the Editor of Admissive, the journal of Advertising Club, Kolkata, of which he was the General Secretary from 1987 to 1991. He has reviewed restaurants and food festivals for 'The Economic Times', Kolkata, for one year and then "ran out of eateries".
Currently, he writes a weekly column for 'Delhi Diary', Delhi's oldest city magazine, teaches in B schools, gives talk shows and presentations on "whatever is on your menu", and gives free advice to anyone who wants to join advertising. He is a recipient of the 'Rotary International Presidential Citation' and has been the Past President of the 'Rotary Club of Delhi', Panchshila Park.
A hardcore Kolkatan, Sujit is very proud of his middle-class Bengali intelligentsia background. An armchair Marxist, he loves his shukto and charchari, and has been living in Delhi since 1994. He is enamored by the city and its legacy, loves its people whose language he does not understand, but enjoys when they get into an abusive spat.
This is his first book, and soon, his memoirs on the advertising scene in the 70s and 80s will hit the stands. Sujit lives in Gurgaon with his wife Shila, son Subhojit (also an author) and three dachshunds, Husky, Julie and Sprite.
