About the Book
Present volume is a co-operative contribution to studies in Hindu Dharma- sastra (composed in Sanskrit language). It comprises of scholarly findings of the students of Indology. The papers cover a range of topics encompassing economic, sociological, philosophical, religious and legal aspects dealt in the Dharmasastra as also their relevance in the present times.
We should not feel content with giving the views of Indian and foreign Indologists to demarcate the time of composition of ancient Indian literature such as Veda and Dharmasastra to pre- Mauryan and post-Mauryan period only. To quote K. Motwani : Let us review in the light of the views and opinions of few great men and women of recent times whose writings and utterances contain references to Manu and whose thinking and live have in some measure been influenced by Manu’s teachings.
The Dharmarsastra literature has preserved ancestry and contemporaneity both by way of interpretation and commentaries, in each century. The accreditation to Indian wisdom as the earliest source of kowledge is indisputable established by the different Law Codes available in far East/South and West of Asia as also in Europe, Conscientious thinkings of ancient saints and seers will continue to “humanise the humanity”. The present work is a tiny step to reach unto the goal.
