Allen's Keynotes is one of the widely read books of materia medica used by students, teachers, and practitioners. Keeping into consideration, the difficulties faced by readers in reading and understanding the vocabulary used in Allen's Keynotes, we have come up with this dictionary of Allen's Keynotes.
Those who have understood and grasped the basic structure, formation, and underlying principle of Allen's Keynotes and especially those who have been fortunate enough to learn Allen's Keynotes from Masters like Dr S. K. Dubey, know that the utility and clinical applicability of the book depend mainly on comparisons. With this in mind and to share this, this book is being presented to the profession.
Allen's Key Notes is the popular name of the book, 'Keynotes and Characteristics with comparisons of some of the Leading Remedies of the Materia Medica' by Dr. H.C. Allen. It is indisputably the most read, most used and of course the most popular book not only in India but probably in the world. It has also become the book which is followed mostly for BHMS studies and for other curriculum bound studies.
However, those who are somewhat less fluent in English or whose mother tongue is not English, face difficulties in reading and understanding some of the words used in the book. Even for those who are much versed in English, some of the terminologies used in the book are difficult to comprehend. Many of the terminologies and nomenclature are quite out of use. We have tried to provide the word meaning to some of the selected words, terms and nomenclatures used in Allen's Key Notes.
Allen's Key Notes being the book which is most widely used by students, teachers, and practitioners, various attempts have been made to simplify it. Some of the writers have even attempted to rearrange the book without caring for the originality of the book. What we have done here is to segregate the symptoms (Keynotes) according to the various chapters and sub-chapters. We have tried to arrange the related symptoms of all the medicines of Allen's keynote at one place. Moreover, we have also tried to club the unrelated but similar-sounding symptoms at one place, which will make an easy comprehension and learning of Allen's keynote. The purpose of this effort is to make comparative study more interesting.
