Like every young Indian of the 19th century. I too became a dedicated fan of superstar Dilip Kumar at the threshold of my youth. I always tried to dress like him. act like him and even romanticise like him 1 (Of course, unlike Dilip Kumar Saheb. all the response that I ever got from girls was heaps of giggles I)
But, as I grew older and began my career of commercial broadcasting - which included deeply studying Dilip Saheb's films and publicising them on Radio Ceylon. I began to realize that even his style of speaking was matchless. and I tried hard to imbibe the greatness of his speaking in my own programmes - and it gradually helped me to improve my own popularity in radio broadcasting.
Later. I also had the good fortune of meeting him often - sometimes at his residence in Bandra - and so warm and kind was his personality. that every time I even think of him. I feel like standing up and saluting this matchless megastar!
And, now that TRINETRA BAJPAI Saheb has sent me an advance copy of his fabulous book on Dilip Kumar. I stand up and salute Trinetraji. too - because he and his daughter Anshula have brought out such a matchless book on Dilip Sahebs personality. films. co-stars. posters. photographs and songs that it has left me wonderstruck ! Read it yourself. and feel its wonderful effect - even the "Words Worth" prologue by the eminent journalist Ali Peter John is memorable!
