The book is a humble effort on his part to present the life, teachings and endeavor of Shaikh Nuruddin vis-a-vis Kashmir in proper perspective. It is an attempt to show that the Shaikh, being the representative of the local cultural ethos, took forward to its culmination the work initiated by the Sufis who came from Persia and Central Asia. The work highlights Shaikh Nuruddin's 'evolution from a struggling child to an active missionary after his emergence from the Cave (of Gophbal) when he was influenced, directly or indirectly, by the Sufis. Moreover, the fact is brought to light that the Shaikh's teachings (through his Shruks or verses) fill up gaps, if any, and supplement the historical data necessary to prove the 're-orientation' of his thought and behavior.
