This book gives an overview of the initiatives and efforts that are being carried out in India in the field of sustainable development, especially on the environmental aspects; the challenges of climate change as well as the preparedness in India. This book introduces to readers the various distinctive and successful programmes for the conservation of environment like Namami Gange, National Tiger Mission, International Solar Alliance, and faster environmental clearances, among others that are being undertaken by various ministries and institutions in India such as the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change; Ministry of Water Resources; National Wild Life/Tiger Conservation Authority; Department of Renewable Resources; and National Solar Mission. This book must enthuse environmentalists, forest and wildlife lovers, climatologists, scientists interested in the rejuvenation of rivers, advocates of alternate and solar energy, policymakers and administrators.

Engagement with Nature presents opportunities for consciousness, quintessentially to be inspired and refreshed, and to receive non-anthropogenic standards. These are fundamental to the orientation of human beings, providing primordial intimations of Nature. The relational dimension to a human being emphasises involvement with an environment without jettisoning the idea of a self. We are ineluctably environmental and linked to the primordial idea of sustainability. Sustainability lies at the heart of human consciousness, and sustainability is integral to human beings. This understanding of sustainability is necessary to elucidate the right relationship with Nature and properly address environmental issues. In this fundamental sense of consciousness being attentive to its intentional objects, is involved in sustaining of things.

Because of the element of autonomy in Nature, there is a complex relationship between the play of human purposes and the otherness of Nature. Furthermore, our artefacts are frequently shaped by our awareness of aspects of Nature, such as the weather. Any idea of Nature is that it would have the solidity and impartiality necessary for guiding an understanding of human flourishing or for founding an environmental ethic.
